How To Crimp A Wire Ferrule

As an Amazon Affiliate, EXPLORIST.life earns from qualifying purchases.

A wire ferrule is a simple way to finish off the end of stranded copper wire and prepare it to be used in a screw terminal like you’d find on a charge controller.

Crimping a wire ferrule onto a stranded wire can turn a ugly, high resistance messy wire end into a neat and tidy, low resistance professionally finished wire.

  1. Hey Nate, There has been a lot of talk about Ferrules, I am wondering if you could touch on then for use in the new push connections on the Victron Multiplus II, there is some confusion out there, and a recent video put out by AM Solar says not to use ferrules in these connections, however the interpretation from the Victron installation manual can go either way. Im sure as a Brand Ambassador you may be privy to the best info. Thanks for your help.

    1. I just looked up the video you’re talking about and understand the concern by AM solar. I have not run into that issue yet, but Ferrules are indeed approved for use in the Multiplus by Victron. We actually talked about it in the training I am teaching at yesterday as a good solution for those who are having trouble getting stranded wire into the terminals. I would be surprised if a properly crimped ferrule came loose inside of the Multiplus as once a ferrule is crimped, it is on there REALLY tight. But remember, ferrules are optional… If they are causing more issues than they are fixing; don’t use them.

  2. Hey Nate, sorry if it’s already been brought to your attention, but the video for this post doesn’t have a link.
