From the brand
Product Description
HSC8 6-6A Self-adjustable Wire Ferrule Crimping Tool(Hexagonal Crimp Profile)
Wire ferrules (also called bootlace terminals) are crimped onto stranded wires that are being inserted into terminal blocks. They protect the wire and keep the strands together to avoid strays shorting to adjacent terminals.
- For solder-free electrical connections.
- Lateral loading of the end sleeves (ferrules) into the tool.
- Simple handling as a result of self-adjustment to the size of the end sleeve (ferrule).
- These tools have been set precisely (calibrated) in the factory.
- Optimum transmission of force due to lever action for fatigue-reduced operation.
- High operation comfort thanks to handy shape and low weight.
How to Choose Hex or Square crimp profile? Both of Hexagonal or Square Crimp provides stable connection on end sleeve ferrules. Square crimps fit better into rectangular shapes and that hexagonal crimps fit better into round shapes. It depends on what style of terminal block you are using.

I am very particular about my tools and I have no problem spending the extra money for a quality tool, which makes this crimper kind-of an enigma. It is built very well AND is cheaper than most other ferrule crimpers that I have seen or used.
If you are looking for a great tool, look no further.
Tip: If the tool is "over crimping" and causing the ferrule to fall apart, you can reduce the crimp pressure by adjusting the dial on the side (after removing the small screw). A lot of issues can be resolved by adjusting this for the application.
Many of the negative reviews I've seen for this tool could probably be resolved by using better materials and/or sticking to the application they are intended for.
-These are all metal with the exception of the 2 grips, which are rubber molded within plastic. In the pics, the orange is the plastic, and the silver/grey is the softer rubber.
-The translation to English is decent, actually good.
-That, and the inclusion of TWO spare springs is amazing-unexpectedly unprecedented in Chinese items.
If you are minding the numbers:
HSC6-4 - the 4-sided "square" crimps
HSC6-6 - the 6-sided ones (that I got).
I already have a set of cheap Chinese 4-sided, and as I am new-ish to ferules, I wanted to see how the 6's worked. I can tell you that if you screw down on the 4's, they tend to split on the created 4 seams. This is counter to what you are told. To my mind, the more 'sides' the ferule, the closer it resembles the wire you are crimping it around. Makes sense, even if not backed by fact.
I have found that in general, simply screwing/clamping down on bare strands (un-feruled[sp?]) is far worse for connections-especially if you find yourself re-attaching. For example, bench/prototyping will find you constantly re-attaching things, and with the strands gradually breaking off one-by-one, you might be basing designs/measurements on non-real-world conductivity.
Thoughts:
-I have no idea how they behave for HF/UHF stuff (think skin effect).
-These offer ZERO prote4ction from the elements. Copper is still copper when in a ferule.
-All ferules are not the same, and all I can find are cheap Chinese ones, so your mileage will vary wildly.
HTH!
